The European champion Spain has conquered the world of football by defeating defending champion Argentina in the final of FIFA World Cup 2026 by 1-0 in the MetLife stadium, New Jersey, USA on 19th July, 2026 . Though Spain played superbly throughout the match, no team was able to score any goal within the regulation time. The winning goal was scored by Ferran Torres in the extra time of the match in the 106th minute. This time the tournament was hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada. This time 48 countries participated in the tournament. It may be the last World Cup for the legendary footballer Leonel Messi and he played really well throughout the tournament; scored eight goals and assisted a few times also. But Argentina failed to retain the title. While Spain won the title it is for the first time that the National Men’s and Women’s team of a country won the FIFA World Cup together . For the first time in history, the top four teams of FIFA World ranking qualified for the semifinals. England was defeated by Argentina by 2-1 and France was defeated by Spain by 2-0 in the semifinals. England beat France by 6 – 4 to win the third place. Spanish captain Rodri was chosen as the Player of the tournament to achieve the Golden Ball award. Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon was awarded the Golden Glove award for being the best goalkeeper. Pau Cubarshi, the 19 years old Spanish defender won the Young Player of the tournament award. Kylian Mbappe from France won the Golden Boot award for scoring ten goals which is more than anyone in the tournament. Netherlands won the Fair Play award. Spain won their first title in 2010 and now they achieved their second one with a great team effort. Three official mascots for three host nations are – Maple™ the Moose (Canada), Zayu™ the Jaguar (Mexico), and Clutch™ the Bald Eagle (USA).
