History created again by Neeraj Chopra. He became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships. He achieved the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary . He did it with a throw of 88.17m . Pakistan’s Arshad Nadim won the silver medal with a throw of 87.82m and Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch won the bronze with a throw of 86.67m. Other two Indian finalists also performed well in the tournament. Kishore Jena finished fifth with a throw of 84.77m and DP Manu became sixth with a throw of 84.14m . It is also a record that three Indians participated in the final of this championship. With this achievement Neeraj Chopra completed a record to win all the major championships in the Javelin . Before this he won gold medals in the Olympics ( Tokyo 2020) , Asian Athletics Championships( 2017), Asian Games ( 2018 ), Commonwealth Games( 2018 ) , Junior World Championships( 2016 ) , Diamond League ( 2022 ).Now he is one of the major sports icons in India.
