Transformation of sentences from Imperative to Assertive Sentence

Transformation of sentences from Imperative to Assertive Sentence –

1 . When requesting something –
If there is Please / Kindly in any imperative sentence then we use โ€˜You are requested toโ€™ in the place of Please / Kindly.

Examples –
Imperative – Please give me a glass of water.
Assertive – You are requested to give me a glass of water.

Imperative – Kindly assist him.
Assertive – You are requested to assist him.



2. If there is โ€˜Doโ€™ in an imperative sentence then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use Subject+ should or must at the beginning of the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Do your job.
Assertive – You should do your job.

Imperative – Do your plan.
Assertive – You must do your plan.



3. If an Imperative sentence starts with a main verb then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use Subject + should or must at the beginning of the Assertive sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Go there.
Assertiveย ย  – You should go there.

Imperative – Complete the project in due time.
Assertive – You must complete the project in due time.






4. If there is โ€˜Do notโ€™ in an imperative sentence then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use Subject + should not or must not at the beginning of the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Do not waste your time.
Assertive – You should not waste your time.

Imperative – Do not disrespect your teachers.
Assertive – You must not disrespect your teachers.




5. If there is โ€˜neverโ€™ in any imperative sentence then to transform this to an assertive one we use Subject + should or must at the beginning of the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Never waste your time.
Assertive – You should never waste your time.



6. If there is โ€˜Alwaysโ€™ in any imperative sentence then to transform this to an assertive one we use Subject + should at the beginning of the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Always obey the traffic rules.
Assertive – You should always obey the traffic rules.




7. If there is โ€˜Letโ€™ before a noun or a pronoun in an imperative sentence then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use Subject + might / should in the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Let her play the music.
Assertive – He might play the music.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  or
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  He should play the music.


Negative Sentence –
Imperative – Let her not play the music now.
Assertive – He should not play the music now.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  or
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  He might not play the music now.


8. If there is โ€˜Let usโ€™ in an imperative sentence then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use โ€˜We shouldโ€™ in the place of โ€˜Let usโ€™ in the Assertive Sentence.

Example –
Imperative – Let us have a discussion.
Assertive – We should have a discussion.


9. If there is โ€˜Mayโ€™ in an imperative sentence then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use โ€˜ I hopeโ€™ in the place of โ€˜Mayโ€™ in the imperative sentence.

Example-
Imperative – May the time is always favourable.
Assertive – I hope the time is always favorable.

Imperative – May God bless you.
Assertive – I hope God bless you.

Imperative – May the boy never fail.
Assertive – I hope the boy never fails.
