Transformation of sentences from Exclamatory to Assertive –

1 . If there is ‘hurrah’ in an exclamatory sentence then we use ‘it is a matter of joy’ in the place of ‘hurrah’ and use ‘that’ after this  to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence.

Example –
Exclamatory -Hurrah! Our team has won the match.

Assertive – It is a matter of joy that our team has won the match.


2. If there is ‘fie’ in an exclamatory sentence then we use ‘it is a shameful’  in place of ‘fie’ and use ‘that’ after this to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence.

Example –
Exclamatory – Fie! He is using rough language.

Assertive – It is a shameful that he is using rough language.



3. If there is ‘Alas’ at the beginning of the sentence then we use ‘It is a matter of sorrow that’  instead of Alas to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence.

Example –
Exclamatory – Alas! Our club lost the match .

Assertive – It is a matter of sorrow that our club lost the match.



4. If there is ‘O that’ at the beginning of an exclamatory sentence then we use Subject + wish in the place of ‘O that’ to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence.



Example –

Exclamatory – O that I were a magician.

Assertive – I wish  I were a magician.



5. If there is ‘If ‘ at the beginning of an exclamatory sentence then we use Subject + wish in the place of ‘If ’ to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence.

Example –
  Exclamatory – If I were a magician.
  Assertive – I wish I were a magician.



6. If an exclamatory sentence starts with ‘What’ then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use the structure below –

Subject + verb + a + very / great + adjective+ rest part of the sentence

Examples –

Exclamatory – What a beautiful place this is !

Assertive – This is a very beautiful place.

Exclamatory – What a person he is !

Assertive – He is a great person.



7. If an exclamatory sentence starts with ‘Had’ then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use the structure below –

Subject + wish + Subject + had + rest part of the sentence

Example-
Exclamatory – Had you been a queen !
Assertive – I wish I had been a queen.

Exclamatory – Had I the required number !
Assertive – I wish I had the required number.




8.  If an exclamatory sentence starts with ‘Would that’ then to transform the sentence to an assertive one we use the subject + wish in the place of ‘Would that.’

Example-
Exclamatory – Would that he could be a magician.

Assertive – He wishes he could be a magician.

Exclamatory – Would that I could be a king.

Assertive – I wish I could be a king.


9. If an exclamatory sentence starts with ‘How’ then to transform the sentence to an assertive sentence we use the structure below –
Subject + verb + a + very / so + adjective

Example –
Exclamatory – How nice is the Himalayan region!
Assertive – The Himalayan region is
very nice .

Exclamatory – How long this distance is !
Assertive – This distance is so long.

To change the sentences from the Assertive to Exclamatory just follow the above rules and apply in reverse.
