TOEFL Examination –
Test of English as a Foreign Language . It is a standardised test to measure the ability in English language for non – native speakers willing to enrol in English speaking Universities.

Details – The internet based test is taken more than 50 times a year and can be. Taken only once in a three day period. Accepted almost in 190 countries. 4500 test centres in 190 countries. More than 11000 institutions accept the score .
Duration of the test –
IBT or Internet based test – 2 hrs 47 minutes to 3 hrs 23 minutes
Paper delivered test – 2 hrs 25 minutes
Score range – a. IBT – 0 to 30 on each section . Total 0 to 120
b. PBT – Reading – 0 to 30
Listening – 0 to 30
Writing – 0 to 30
Validity of score – 2 years
Internet Based Test-
Reading Skill – 3 to 4 passages and each contains 10 questions. Time – 54 to 72 minutes
Listening Skill – 5 to 7 passages and each contains 5 to 6 questions. Time – 41 to 57 minutes
Mandatory Break – 10 minutes
Speaking Skill – 4 tasks ( 1 independent and 3 integrated ) Time – 17 minutes
Writing – 2 tasks . Time – 50 minutes
Paper Based Test-
Listening – 30 to 40 minutes
Structure and Written Expression – 25 minutes
Reading Comprehension – 55 minutes
Writing – 30 minutes
TOEFL Junior Test – Educational Testing Service or ETS also conducts this test. It is a general assessment of Middle school level English proficiency and intended for students aged 11+.
It has two formats. –
TOEFL Junior Standard or Paper Based Test – It has three sections –
Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Language Form and Meaning.
TOEFL Junior Comprehensive Test – It has four sections. – Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Speaking and Writing .
Score – Each section has a score range of 0 to 300 and a total score of 0 to 900. The minimum passing score is 600 and corresponding to 200 scores for each section.
This test is mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ( CEFR ) .
The test takers can achieve a certificate .
TOEFL Primary Test – ETS or Educational Testing Service also conducts this test. This is a test to measure English language proficiency of the students between the age group of 8 to 11 .

Speaking
Depending on their ability students can take any one between step 1 or step 2.
Reading and Listening Test is conducted digitally or can be done on paper. The Speaking Test can be done only digitally.
Validity of score one year.
Score – Score range for Reading and Listening Test – 101 to 115 . Speaking Test – 1 to 27.
