1. The present form of National Flag of India was adopted on 22nd July, 1947 during the meeting of Constituent Assembly.
2. It served as the National Flag of the Dominion of India between 15th August 1947 to 26th January 1950.
3. After that it became the National Flag of the Republic of India.
4. The term ‘ Tricolour ‘ ( Tiranga ) refers to the Indian National Flag in India.
5. The Indian National Flag is a horizontal triccolour and the width and the length ratio is two to three.
6. There is deep saffron colour at the top , indicating the strength and courage of the country .
7. There is white in the middle, indicates peace and truth with Dharma Chakra.
8. There is dark green colour at the bottom, indicates the fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the land.
9. All the colours are in equal proportion .
10. There is a navy blue wheel with 24 spokes in the centre of the white band. It depicted the ” wheel of law ” in the Sarnath Lion Capital made by Samrat Ashoka. It indicates that there is life in movement and death in stagnation.
11. The Flag is based on the Swaraj Flag of the Indian National Congress designed by Pingali Venkayya.
12. Uses and hoisting of the Indian National Flag is guided by the National Flag Code. The code was modified on 26th January 2002.
