Summer Olympics 2024 – India’s Performance – Current English

The Olympics 2024 is just finished . This summer Olympics was hosted by France in Paris from 26th July to 11th August .  The motto was “Games Wide Open.” Total 206 committees participated in 329 events of 32 sports and 48 disciplines. USA grabbed the highest number of medals including 42 Gold, 44 Silver , 42 Bronze medals and ranked top among the competing nations. China ranked second by getting 40 Gold, 27 Silver , 24 Bronze and 91 medals in total . Japan ranked third and achieved 20 Gold, 12 Silver, 13 Bronze and 45 medals in total. Australia ranked fourth and grabbed 18 Gold, 19 Silver, 16 Bronze and 53 medals in total. The host nation France ranked fifth and achieved 16 Gold, 26 Silver, 22 Bronze and 64 medals in total. There was one Podium sweep in the Summer Olympics 2024 when the host nation France won all the three medals ( Gold, Silver and Bronze ) in Cycling in Men’s BMX race . India ranked seventy first with 6 medals in total including a Silver and 5 Bronze medals. Total 110 competitors participated in 16 sports from India . The flag bearers for India in the opening ceremony were P.V. Sindhu and Sharath Kamal. It is India’s second highest medal haul after the 2020 Summer Olympics. Neeraj Chopra won Silver medal in Javelin. As he won Gold in the Summer Olympics 2020, he became the first Indian to win a Gold and a Silver medal in Olympic for India . Indian Men’s hockey team won Bronze medals by beating Spain in the third place decider match . It is their second consecutive Bronze in  Summer Olympics. Manu Bhaker won Bronze medals in Women’s Shooting in 10 metres air pistol event. She also won another Bronze medal with Sarabjot Singh in Shooting in Mixed 10 metres air pistol team event. She became the first woman shooter to win an Olympic medal. She is also now the first Indian since independence to win two medal in a single Olympics. Swapnil Kusale won another Bronze medal in the Men’s 50 metres rifle three positions event. Aman Sehrawat won another Bronze medal in the Men’s freestyle 57 kg wrestling event. He is the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal at only 21 years of age. Manu Bhaker and P.R. Sreejesh were the flag bearers for India in the closing ceremony.
