ISRO successfully launched SpaDex. Successful separation of SpaDex satellites created another milestone in India’s space journey. SpaDex means Space Docking Experiment . It is a twin satellite 🛰️ mission developed by ISRO . Launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota on 31st December. It is a cost effective technology for the demonstration of in – space docking using two small spacecraft launched by PSLV. It is essential for India’s space journey like Indian on Moon, sample return from the Moon, building and operation of Bharatiya Space Station , etc. Through this mission India is now the 4th country in the world to have space docking technology.
The primary objective of the mission is to develop the technology for rendezvous, docking and unlocking of two small spacecraft ( chaser and target ) in a low earth circular orbit.
Other objectives are- demonstration of the transfer of electric power between the docket spacecraft which is essential for future application like space robotics . Other objectives also included composite spacecraft control and payload operations after unlocking.
The mission consists of two small spacecraft to be launched by the PSLV – C60 independently and simultaneously into a 470 km circular orbit at 55°inclination , with a local time cycle of about 66 days.
The spacecraft was designed and realized by the UR Rao Satellite Centre with the support of ISRO centres like VSSC, LPSC, SAC, IISU and LEOS .
