What is Phrasal Verb – Phrasal Verb is a combination of two or more words and acts as a completely new verb with a different meaning from those original verbs.
It combines a verb with an adverb or preposition to indicate a new meaning . This adverb or preposition is called the particle of the Phrasal Verb.
Example – get up , pick up, take after, go through, etc.
These verbs can be used as a normal verb in a sentence and follow the same conjugation rules .
Example – We are using ‘ get up ‘ to show how a phrasal Verb can be used –
Present Tense – He gets up early in the morning.
Past Tense – He got up early today .
Past Participle – He has just gotten up .
Present Participle – He is getting up now .
Gerund – Getting up early is his habit .
Infinitive – He practised to get up early in the morning .
Types of the Phrasal Verb –
1 . Transitive Phrasal Verb – This type of Phrasal Verb uses a direct object .
Example – The manager carried out the order.
2. Intransitive Phrasal Verb – This type of Phrasal Verb doesn’t use an object .
Example – The rain is passed off.
3. Separable Phrasal Verb – In Transitive Phrasal Verb, sometimes we can put the direct object between the verb and the particle.
Example – Let’s keep it up to get more success.
Especially if the object is Pronoun , then it sit between the verb and the particle.
4. Inseparable Phrasal Verb – In this type of Phrasal Verb, the verb and the particle can’t be separated. They stay together.
