Paralympics 2024 –
The 2024 Summer Paralympics is just over now. This time the event was organised in Paris, France from 28th August to 8th September. This is India’s 13th appearance at the Paralympics. China ranked top in the medal tally with 94 Gold, 76 Silver , 50 Bronze and 220 medals in total. Great Britain ranked second with 49 Gold, 44 Silver , 31 Bronze and 124 medals in total. The United States of America ranked third with 36 Gold, 42 Silver, 27 Bronze and 105 medals in total.
Total 84 competitors from India participated in 12 sports . Bhagyashree Yadav and Sumit Antil were the flag bearers in the opening ceremony . India ranked 18th in the medal tally with 7 Gold, 9 Silver , 13 Bronze and 29 medals in total . It is India’s best performance ever in any Paralympics.

Avani Lekhara won second consecutive Gold medals in Paralympics and she is the first Indian woman athlete to win multiple medals at Paralympics . Sumit Antil is now the first Indian male athlete to win consecutive Paralympics Gold medals in the same event. Harvinder Singh won India’s first ever Paralympics Gold medal in Archery. Sheetal Devi is now the youngest Indian Paralympics medalist. Deepti Jeevanji is now India’s youngest track medalist. Preethi Pal achieved India’s first ever track medal in athletics and she is now the only Indian to win multiple medals in a single Paralympics. Kapil Parmar’s medal in Judo is India’s first ever medal in this event. Mariyappan Thangavelu is now the first Indian to win a medal in three consecutive Paralympics . He won the Gold medal in High jump at Rio 2016, Silver at Tokyo 2020 and this time won a Bronze medal .
The flag bearers for India in the closing ceremony were Preethi Pal and Harvinder Singh .
