The Indian Sports Ministry announced the name of sports persons who will be conferred the National Sports Award 2020. These awards are distributed on 29th August every year on the Day of National Sports Day. This day is celebrated every year in India to commemorate the birth day of the ‘Magician of the Hockey‘ , Major Dhyan Chand Singh. As per the recommendation of the Selection Committee headed by Retd. Justice Mukundakam Sharma (former Judge of Supreme Court of India ) ,the name for selected sports persons were announced for the awards like Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna , Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award – for Life -Time and for Regular Category, Dhyan Chand Award , Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award , Maulana Abul Kalam Azad ( MAKA ) Trophy, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar .
The awardees will be awarded by the Honourable President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on 29th August , 2020 at a virtual Award Function.

- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award – This award is provided to the most outstanding perfomance in the sports over a period of four years. The list for this year – i. Shri Rohit Sharma – Crickey, ii. Shri Mariyappann T. – Para Athletics, iii. Ms. Manika Batra – Table Tennis, iv. Ms. Vinesh – Wrestling, v. Ms. Rani – Hockey.

- Dronacharya Award – This award is provided to the coaches for producing medal winners at in International Sports events. The list for this year – a. Life –Time Category – i. Shri Dharmendra Tiwary – Archery, ii. Shri Purushotham Rai – Athletics, iii. Shri Shiv Singh – Boxing, iv. Shri Romesh Pathania – Hockey, v. Shri Krishan Kumar Hooda – Kabadi, vi. Shri Vijay Bhalchandra munishwar- Para Powerlifting , vii. Shri Naresh Kumar – Tennis, viii. Shri Om Prakash Dahiya – Wrestling.

4. Dhyan Chand Award – This award is provided for the life time contribution to the development of sports. The list for this year – i. Shri Kuldip Singh Bhullar – Athletics, ii. 5. Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards 2019 – This award is provided to recognize the spirit of adventure among the people .
The selected persons are – i. Ms.Anita Devi – Land Adventure, ii. Col. Sarfaraj Singh – Land Adventure, iii. Shri Taka Tamut – Land Adventure, iv.Shri Narendar Singh- Land Adventure, v. Shri Keval Hiren Kakka- Land Adventure, vi. Shri Satendra Singh- Water Adventure, vii. Shri Gajanand Yadav- Air Adventure, viii. Late Shri Identification and nurturing of Budding Magan Bissa – Life Time Acievement.
6. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA0 Trophy – This the award provided to the overall top performing University in inter -university tournaments. The winner for this year is – Punjab University , Chandigarh.
7. Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar – This award is provided to the corporate houses or individuals having a visible contribution to the development and promotion of sports. Award winners in different categories for this year are as follows – a.Category – Identification and nurturing of Budding and Young Talent – i. Lakshya Institute, ii. Army Spoets Institutes.
b. Category – Encouragement to Sports through Corporate Social Responsibility – Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd.
c. Category – Employment of Sportspersons and Sports Welfare Measures- Air Force Sports Control Board.
d. Category – Sports for Development – International institute of Sports Management (IISM)
