Seats are allotted for Regular candidates and Lateral Entry candidates. Lateral Entry Programmes are offered through NLEA or NIFT Lateral Entry Admission.


Tentative Time Schedule –
1 . Online Registration for all modes of admission – Generally in December.


2. Last date of online Registration for UG / PG courses – Generally in January


3 . Application with late fees – January


4. Edit or Uploading the application form – January

5. Online admit card – Third week of January.

6. CBT or Computer based test or Entrance Examination for Admission -February

7. Result – March

8. Situation Test / Interview – April

9. Online Registration for NRI or Foreign Nationals – Mid January to April

10. Declaration of the final result  ( online ) –

Last week of April.

11. Seat Allocation -:May – June.

Qualification and Eligibility –

1 . Bachelor Programmes –

Age – Maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st August. 5 years age relaxation for SC, ST, PWD.

Educational Qualification –

Bachelor of Design –

10+2 passed from any recognised Board or Council in India.

Or

A pass grade in the Senior Secondary Examination of National Open School with at least 5 subjects.

Or

Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as 10+2 system .

Or

General Certificate Education or GCE from London / Cambridge / Sri-Lanka at the Advanced ( A ) level  / International Baccalaureate ( IB ).

2. Bachelor of Fashion Technology – 10+2 passed from any recognised Board or Council in India with Physics and Mathematics.

Or

A pass grade in the Senior Secondary Examination of National Open School with at least 5 subjects including Physics and Mathematics.

Or

Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as 10+2 system with Physics and Mathematics.

Or


General Certificate Education or GCE from London / Cambridge / Sri-Lanka at the Advanced ( A ) level  with Physics and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate ( IB ).


Master Programmes –
Age – No age limit.


Educational Qualification –

Master of Design –
Undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognised institution or university in India.

Or

Three years undergraduate diploma from NIFT or NID .

*Though students of any discipline can apply but Master of Design is an advanced course so they need basic understanding of design.

Master of Fashion Management –

Undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognised institution or university in India.

Or

Three years undergraduate diploma from NIFT or NID .



Master of Fashion Technology –

B.F.Tech from NIFT.

Or

B.E. or B.Tech from any recognised institution or university in India.


In both Bachelor and Master Courses final year or semester students can also apply.


Foreign nationals / NRI can also apply on the basis of their SAT / GRE / GMAT scores.


Entrance Examination – All the eligible candidates have to appear in an Entrance Examination.

Candidates will get a CMR or Combined Merit Rank based on their score.

Bachelor of Design –

Bachelor of Fashion Technology

Candidates appearing in Entrance Examination for the both courses will get two separate CMR for two courses.

Creative Aptitude Test or CAT – It will be a test to understand the intuitive ability , power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate.  It is also important to judge the creative and innovative application of colour and illustration skills.



Situation Test – It is a hands-on test to judge the skill of the candidate for material handling and innovative skills in a given situation with a given set of materials.


Personal Interview – Candidates will be evaluated on the parameters like Career orientation, Aptness for the course, Overall personal achievements in academic and co curricular activities , Communication, General awareness, aptitude, creative and lateral thinking.


NTA or National Testing Agency – Currently ( 2024 ) NTA is organising the admission test.

Ph.D Programmes – 

Admission through

Exemption from Written test -1. Candidates having Masters Degree with minimum 10 years of professional experience in teaching or working in the areas of research relevant to NIFT.

2. Masters Degree holders who have cleared and also have a valid score UGC NET, CEED, CSIR ( JRF ) similar tests.

Admission Eligibility ( Full Time and Part Time )-

1 . Master’s Degree in the relevant area of Design, Management or Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution or university of national / international repute. – Minimum 7 years of Education after class X . – Cumulative Grade Point Average or CGPA of 6.0 on 10 point scale ( 5.5 for SC/ST candidates)  or equivalent – or 55% marks in aggregate of all the years / semesters ( 50% for SC / ST ) – No working experience needed.

2. Master’s Degree is not relevant to areas identified by NIFT – Minimum 7 years of Education after class X . – Cumulative Grade Point Average or CGPA of 6.0 on 10 point scale ( 5.5 for SC/ST candidates)  or equivalent – or 55% marks in aggregate of all the years / semesters ( 50% for SC / ST ) – 10 years of professional experience in the proposed area of research ( teaching / working )

3. Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant area of Design, Management or Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution or university of national / international repute. – Minimum 5 years of Education after class X . – Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average is 8.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the institute wherever letter grades are awarded – or 75% marks ( 70% for SC / ST ) in aggregate of all the years or semesters where marks are awarded. – 10 years of professional experience in the proposed area of research ( teaching / working )


Full Time Programme  – normally to submit thesis within four years but option of submitting in three years from the date of their initial registration. In special cases it can be extended to five years by the DG- NIFT.

It has two categories

1 . NIFT Teaching Fellowship or NTF – They are eligible to get fellowship amount from NIFT.

2. Self – Financed including those in Study Leave or SF

Part time Programme – Students need to submit a thesis within six years. But there is an option of submitting within four years from the date of their initial registration. In special cases it can be extended to seven years by the DG-NIFT.

NIFT Artisan Admission –

Eligibility Requirements

For Bachelor Programmes –

Age – Age – Maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st August. 5 years age relaxation for SC, ST, PWD.

3 or 4 years diploma recognised by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.

and

Artisan or Ward of Artisan can seek admission in this category on submission of Artisan card issued to self / father / mother by the Development Commissioner (Handicraft ) , or Development Commissioner
( Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India . The card holder should be practising artisan / weaver at least last 5 years of self and at least 10 years in case the card bearers are parents of the applicants.


Examination – They will be selected based on –

1 . Studio Test – 70 marks – To test creative ability and basic 3-D modelling ability ( using 3-d modelling clay ) or other materials.

2. Personal Interview – 30 marks.

NIFT Lateral Entry Admission or NLEA –

This is a programme through which a student having Diploma in relevant field of Design and Technology can get admission in the second year or third semester of the UG courses strictly on the basis of their Merit Rank .

Eligibility Requirements –
Bachelor of Design Courses –

Passed Secondary School Examination or 10th .

And

Passed 3 or 4 years diploma recognised by AICTE / AIU / UGC or State Board of Technical Education in courses related to Fashion / Apparel / Textile and Accessories / Home Science / Handloom Technology / Products / Visual Communication / Graphic Design/ Industrial Design / Interior Design/ Multimedia Design / Apparel Technology / Leather / Fine arts

Or

Passed Senior Secondary or 12th recognised by AIU .

And

Students who have completed two years of regular UG diploma programmes in NIFT after passing Senior Secondary or 12th standard.


Bachelor of Fashion Technology –


Passed Secondary School Examination or 10th .

And

Passed 3 or 4 years diploma recognised by AICTE / AIU / UGC or State Board of Technical Education in courses related to Fashion / Apparel / Textile and Accessories / Home Science / Handloom Technology.
