One of the saddest incident happened this year when the ‘ Queen of Melody ‘ Lata Mangeshkar died on 6th February, 2022 at the age of 92 . She was also known as the ‘ Nightingale of India ‘ and the ‘ Voice of the Millennium.’ Her original name was Hema Mangeshkar and she was born on 28th September, 1929 at Indore . Her father was Deenanath Mangeshkar and mother was Shevanti Mangeshkar. She is always considered as one of the greatest playback singer of Indian music. Her career spanned for eight decades from 1942 to 2022. She recorded songs in over 36 Indian languages and also in few foreign languages. Even at a point of time she appeared in the Guinness World Records which listed her as the most recorded artist in history between 1948 and 1987. She was awarded with three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, Two Filmfare Special Awards, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and also with 15 Bengal Film Journalist’s Association Awards. In 1989 Government of India honoured her with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award . She was also awarded with the Bharat Ratna , highest civilian honour of India in 2001. She was also awarded with Padma Bhushan Award in 1969 and Padma Vibhushan in 1999. She was also awarded with Maharashtra Bhushan Award in 1997. In 2007 she was awarded with Legion of Honour Award and in 2009 she was awarded the title of Officer of the French Legion of Honour, France’s highest order. State Government of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra instituted the Lata Mangeshkar Award in her honour.
