India’s First Underwater Metro – Completed a successful run in Kolkatan . It is a great milestone for Kolkata Metro . They announced regular trials from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade will start soon and will be conducted for next five to seven months. After that regular service will resume . It is a part of East – West Metro Project . The tunnel between Esplanade and Howrah is 520 metres long and will take 45 seconds to covers. The tunnel is 33 metres below the ground level and constructed under water. There are four stations in between – Esplanade, Mahakaran, Howrah, Howrah Maidan . The distance is 4.8 km. and it is a part of Kolkata’s East – West Metro connecting Saltlake and Howrah , having total length of 16.6 km. On 12th April , Wednesday the MR-612 and MR- 613 , completed the trial run under water. At 11:55am , for the first time ever the Metro ( MR- 612 ) travelled through the underwater tunnel . The tunnel has built under 19metres depth from the water level. Howrah is the deepest platform , having 33 metres of depth . India’s first ever Metro was started in Kolkata in 1984 and India’s first ever underwater Metro has just completed a successful run in Kolkata also.
