IELTS –
Full form – International English Language Testing System
It is an English language proficiency test which is highly regarded and accepted worldwide. It is trusted by more than 12000 organisations in over 140 countries . Highly recommended for study , work and migration to English speaking countries.
Developed by – The test is developed by the British Council in partnership with IDP Education and Cambridge Assessment English.
Types – There are two main types of Test –
1 . IELTS Academic – This is a test to measure English language proficiency for an academic environment.
2. IELTS General Training – This is a test to measure English language proficiency in practical and everyday context. It reflects both workplace and social situations.
3. IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration ( UKVI ) – It is a specific test to support a UK Visa application to study, work or live in the UK. Anyone can take this test in the Academic or General Training category .
Skills to be assessed –
1 . Listening – to assess how well any one can understand ideas, recognise opinions and follow the development of an argument.
2. Reading – to assess how well any one can read for general sense, main ideas ,details and whether one can understand the author’s interferences and opinions.
3. Writing – to assess how well and accurately any one can write a response , organise ideas and use a wide range of vocabulary and grammar.
4. Speaking – to assess how well any one can communicate opinions and information on everyday topics and common experiences , and express and justify opinions.
Time – Listening Skill – 30 minutes.
Reading Skill – 60 minutes
Writing Skill – 60 minutes
Speaking Skill – 11- 14 minutes
Date – In India IELTS dates are available 4 times in a month for the paper based pattern.
For the computer based pattern any one can choose from multiple dates and time slots and expect the result within 3-5 days.
