ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021

The seventh ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is just over now. It was organised by International Cricket Council and hosted by India and the matches were played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from 17th October to 14th November 2021. It was scheduled to be held in Australia in 2020 but due to corona virus pandemic it was rescheduled to be held in India in 2021 but again due to going concerns over the corona virus pandemic the matches were played in UAE and Oman . Total 16 countries participated in this event . Top 8 ranked sides were directly selected for the Super 12 group and they were – England , Australia, South Africa and West Indies in group A of Super 12 and India , Pakistan , New Zealand and Afghanistan in group B in Super 12 . Sri Lanka and Bangladesh did not qualify for the Super 12 automatically . They needed to play in the group stage. Sri Lanka , Bangladesh , Scotland , Namibia , Ireland , Papua New Guinea , Oman and Netherlands are 8 sides played in the group stage . Among those Sri Lanka and Bangladesh advanced to the Super 12 in group A and Scotland and Namibia advanced to the Super 12 in group B. after the competitions among these teams in Super 12, England advanced to the semi final as the group champion from the group A of Super 12 and Australia also advanced to the semi final from group A . Defending champion West Indies was unable to reach the semi final. Pakistan advanced to the semi final as the group champion of group B of Super 12 and New Zealand also advanced to the semi final from the group B. In the semi final New Zealand defeated England to advance in the final for the first time ever and Australia defeated Pakistan to advance in the final for the second time after 2010 . The final match was played on 14th November in Dubai International Cricket Stadium , Dubai . Australia won the toss and their captain Aaron Finch elected to field first. New Zealand scored 172 for 4 in 20 overs after batting first. Their captain Kane Williamson played outstandingly to score 85 in just 48 balls. Josh Hazlewood of Australia took 3 wickets for 16 runs in his four overs. Australia won the match by scoring 173 in just 18.5 overs by losing 2 wickets. Mitchell Marsh played outstandingly to score 77 not out in just 50 balls . Trent Boult of New Zealand took 2 wickets for 18 runs in his four overs. Mitchell Marsh from Australia was announced as the player of the Match. David Warner of Australia was announced as the player of the Series . Most runs were scored by Babar Azam , the skipper of Pakistan (303 runs).Most wickets were taken by Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka(16 weekets). It was the first time Australia won ICC Men’s T20 World Cup . It was the last tournament of Ravi Shastri as the head coach of India and it was the last time Virat Kohli leaded the Indian site as a captain .
