GMAT Examination – Graduate Management Aptitude Test
At first this exam was known as the ‘GMAT Exam’. Then the structure of the Examination was modified and it was renamed to ‘GMAT Focus Edition’ . And from July, 2024 it will be again renamed as ‘GMAT Exam.’
Conducted by – Graduate Management Admission Council
Purpose – For the admission in Graduate Management Program of business schools or Master degree of Business Administration
( MBA ) in various prestigious universities and institutions in the world.
The examination was started in 1953.
This examination is accepted by more than 7700 programs at over 2400 business schools worldwide.
Validity of score – 5 years
Exam attempts – 5 attempts permitted in a rolling 12 months period and 8 attempts in a lifetime version.
Structure of the Examination – It has three sections –
1 . Quantitative Reasoning – 21 questions – 45 minutes
2 . Verbal Reasoning – 23 questions – 45 minutes
3. Data Insights – 20 questions – 45 minutes
Total time – 2 hrs. 15 minutes
Quantitative Reasoning – This section evaluates fundamental knowledge of algebra and arithmetic .Also focuses the application of the knowledge.
Verbal Reasoning – This section has two parts – Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning .
Data Insights – Evaluates data analyzing and interpretation skills and application to real world problems.
Test type – Computer delivered test .

Total score scale ; 205 – 805
Score intervals : 10
Standard error of measurement : 30-40 points
Score Penalty – If anyone fail to finish any section within the stipulated time, then score will be penalized depending upon number questions left unanswered.
Unofficial score – immediately after completing the examination , unofficial scores of different sections and total score are displayed on screen .
Official Score – Candidate will receive an email when the Official Score is available in mba.com account.
Registration process –
i . Visit mba.com website, create an account with some basic information.
ii. Click the yellow register button in your my account page.
iii. Provide the personal information and other details to complete the profile necessary for registration.
iv. Pick the test centre, appointment date and time. Submit payment .
