Divya Desmukh is now the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup. She is a 19 year old girl from Nagpur, Maharashtra. She defeated another Indian legend Grandmaster Koneru Humpy in the final by 1.5 – 0.5 in the tiebreaks in Batumi, Georgia on 28th July, 2025. It was an all Indian final in which two Indian women participated. After two days of intense classical chess the match was decided in tiebreaks. Divya Desmukh is the third ever winner of this trophy after Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk and Grandmaster Aleksandra Goryachkina .
