National Football Championship or Hero National Football Championship or Santosh Trophy 2022-23 is just over now. It is 76th edition of the tournament. It is a national football competition in which state associations and government institutions participate. It is organised by AIFF or All India Football Federation. It was first started in 1941 by IFA or Indian Football Association. It was named Santosh Trophy to honour the former president of IFA, Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhury, the Maharaja of Santosh, who had died in 1939. Till now most successful team in the tournament is West Bengal with 32 titles. In 2023 Karnataka grabbed the title by defeating Meghalaya 3-2 in the final on 4th March at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia . They have done it after 54 years . But this is the first time as Karnataka because in past four occasions they have won the trophy as the princely state of Mysore. For Karnataka three goals were scored by M Sunil Kumar, Bekey Oram, Robin Yadav and for Meghalaya two goals were scored by Brolington Warlarpih and Sheen Stevenson Sohktung . This year semi finals, 3rd place decider and final were held in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia.
