Summer Paralympics 2020 has just finished in Tokyo, Japan . It was schedule to be happen in 2020 but due to effect of coronavirus pandemic it was rescheduled in 2021 . It was organised in Japan National stadium ( known as Olympic Stadium during the games ) in Tokyo from 24th August 2021 to 5th September 2021 . It was opened by the Emperor Naruhito and closed by IPC President Andrew Parsons . 162 Nations including Refugee Paralympic Team and Russian Paralympic Committee participated in this Paralympic 2020. There was 539 events in 22 sports category . China secured the first position in rank with 207 medals including 96 gold , 60 silver and 51 bronze medals . Great Britain finished at second position with 124 medals including 41 gold , 38 silver and 45 bronze medals . United States finished as third with 104 medals including 37 gold , 36 silver and 31 bronze medals . India finished Campaign at 24th position with 19 medals including 5 gold , 8 silver and 6 bronze medals . It is the best performance ever by India in any Paralympics . 19 year old Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to get a gold medal in any Paralympic or or in Olympic . She achieved gold medal in women’s 10 metre Air Rifle standing SH 1 event . She and Singhraj Adhana also created the record of achieving dual medal in same Paralympic. She also achieved bronze medal in R8 women’s 50 metre Rifle 3 P SH1 event.
