Argentina is now the champion of Copa America 2024 . It is their 16th Copa America title and more than any other nation . They achieved the crown by defeating Columbia in the final by 1-0 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on 14th July, 2024 . It was the 48th edition of Copa America which was organised by CONMEBOL and co – organised by CONCACAF . This year the tournament was hosted in the United States of America. The mascot of the tournament was an eagle named Capitan ( the Spanish word of Captain ) . Total 16 teams participated. Among which Argentina, Columbia, Canada and Uruguay reached the Semi – finals. In the Semi – finals Argentina beat Canada and Columbia defeated Uruguay to reach the final. Uruguay defeated Canada to achieve the third place position . The final was very exciting and no team was able to score within the regulation time. Lionel Messi was injured during the first half and he left the field in the second half in the 66th minute of the match. Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal for Argentina in the 112 th minute of the match which separated the two sides. Argentina won the trophy for two consecutive times. Lautaro Martinez of Argentina scored 5 goals in the tournament and became the top scorer to achieve the Golden Boot Award . James Rodriguez of Columbia achieved the Best Player of the tournament Award . Emiliano Martinez of Argentina achieved the Best Goalkeeper Award. Columbia achieved the Fair Play Award.
