The United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, 2022 or COP27 is just over now. It is the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, which was held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 6th to 18th November. Almost 195 countries participated in the conference. The conference emphasized on sustainable lifestyle and sustainable patterns of consumption and production to control the effects of climatic change. It also noted the importance of education to promote sustainability. Countries agreed to build a historic loss and damage fund , which will support developing countries vulnerable to the adverse effects of climatic change. Institutional arrangements were established for averting, minimising and addressing with this types of loss and damages . Also adopted Glasgow – Sharm El Sheikh work programme with a plan of conclusion at COP28. Countries decided to integrate water into adaptation to increase in protecting, conserving and restoring food security , agriculture and water related ecosystems including river basins, aquifers and lakes. But there was no decision on the phase out of fossil fuels. Agreement also made MDBs or Multilateral Development Banks and international financial institutions to reform practices and priorities to ensure simplified access to climate finance.
