The 16th edition of Asia Cup 2023 is just over. It was a cricket tournament of one day international matches. The tournament was held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Six teams participated in the tournament – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal. Sri Lanka started the tournament as the defending champion. India won the trophy for the 8th time by defeating Sri Lanka in the final on 17th September in R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo . It was the maximum number of times by any country to win the Asia Cup crown. Sri Lanka won the toss and their captain Dasun Shanaka elected to bat first. It was the 250th match of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The match was a little bit delayed due to rain . When it started it was all Mohammed Siraj’ s show . He bowled tremendously to take six wickets in the final and Sri Lanka was all out for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs. Bowling figure for Siraj is – 7 overs, 21 runs, 1 maiden and six wickets. He took four wickets in the 4th over of the match. He became the first Indian bowler to do so.It was his best bowling figure in ODI matches and his first five wickets haul. He also completed his 50 wickets haul in this match and became the second quickest bowler to reach the milestone. For India Hardik Pandya took three wickets and Jasprit Bumrah took the other. India scored 51 runs in just 6.1 overs without losing any wicket to win the final. It was India’s highest margin of victory in ODIs, in terms of balls remaining to play. Mohammad Siraj was an automatic choice to achieve the Player of the match award and he deserved it. Kuldeep Yadav of India achieved the Player of the series award. The most runs were scored in the tournament by Shubman Gill of India ( 302 runs ) and most wickets were taken by Matheesa Pathirana of Sri Lanka ( 11 wickets ).
