Uses of ‘as’ – ( Different Parts of Speech )
‘As’ can be used as an adverb, preposition and conjunction.
1 . Adverb –
In this case ‘as’ is used before adjectives or adverbs –
Example – I like Biryani very much but I don’t like fried rice as much.
Please take necessary steps as early as possible.
2. Preposition – In this case, it appears before a Noun or Pronoun in a sentence.
i. My father worked as a teacher. Â

ii. This story is known as an epic.
( Characteristic )
iii. This paper can be used as evidence .
( Purpose )
iv. The coach guides him as his father.
( Similarity )
3. Conjunction –
i . Expressing reason –
As you were late, I started the job.
ii. Expressing result –
The man was so rigid as to disagree.
iii. Expressing comparison –
He did the job as his client ordered.
iv. Expressing simultaneity –
Our teacher scolded us as we were talking.
v. Expressing contrast –
Late as he is, he is still wasting time.
