A horrible train accident – on 17th June, 2024 – Monday – two trains collided near Rangapani Railway station – in Darjeeling district , West Bengal – a goods train ( train no. GFCJ ) collided – with Sealdah – Agartala Kanchanjunga Express ( train no. 13174 ) – in Katihar Siliguri line – the train was coming from Agartala to Sealdah – Train crossed the Rangapani station – it was standing and waiting for green signal to proceed – it was at 8:45 IST – the goods train crossed the Rangapani station and proceeding through the same line – the goods train rammed the passenger train from behind – three coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express derailed – 11 people were killed – including the loco pilot of the goods train – more than 60 people were injured – they were treated at North Bengal Medical College, Siliguri – normalcy of the Railway track was disturbed – local rushed to the rescue operation – administration took necessary actions – Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee visited the place – Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also came – order for a details investigation – the Railway Ministry announced compensation – Rs. 10 lakh for the dead, 2.5 lakh for those seriously injured and 50,000 for those having minor injuries – a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the dead and 50,000 for the injured – from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund
