The 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda was celebrated countrywide on 15th November, 2025. Janajatiya Divas was celebrated on that day. The government declared the day as Janajatiya Divas in 2021.
Birsa Munda was born on 15th November in 1875 in Ulihatu Khunti district . His birth name was Daud Munda. He was an iconic leader of the tribal movement. He was the leader of the ‘Munda Rebellion ’ which is also known as the Ulgulan movement. His revolution was against the Dikus who were outsiders or  money lenders or  missionaries etc. and also against the introduction of new Zamindari system in the place of traditional Mundari Khuntkatti ( Community land ownership) . He also fought against the Europeans. He was known as Bhagwan and also achieved the title of ‘ Dharti Aaba’ or the Father of Earth. He died on 9th June, 1900 in Ranchi jail due to  illness .
