125th Year Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, the Creator of Byomkesh Bakshi

Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay was an eminent Bengali writer. He wrote many short stories, stories, novels, crime and detective stories, Historical fiction etc. We are celebrating the 125th year celebration of his birth. He was born on 30th March, 1899 at Jaunpur of Uttar Pradesh. His pen name was Chandrahas. He is famous for the creation of some great characters like – Byomkesh Bakshi, Sadashib, Baroda . Some of his famous series are Byomkesh series and Sadashib series. Some famous historical fiction created by him were – Kaler Mandira, Gaur Mallar, Tumi Sandhyar Megh, Kumarsambhaber Kabi, Tungabhadrar Tire, Jhinder Bondi. Some Bengali films were made by the adaptation of his stories and these are – Jhinder Bondi, Chiriyakhana, Shajarur Kanta, Dadar Kirti, Meghmukti, Magna Mainak, Baroda o Bahurupi, Chaar, Maya Bazaar, Jekhane Bhuter Bhoy, Monchora, Byomkesh Bakshi, Satyanweshi, Abar Byomkesh, Byomkesh Phire Elo, Har Har Byomkesh, Byomkesh o Chiriyakhana, Byomkesh o Agnibaan, Byomkesh Pawrbo, Satyanweshi Byomkesh, Byomkesh Gotro. Some Hindi films also adapted his stories and these are – Trishagni , Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. TV series were also produced based on his stories of Byomkesh Bakshi. His character Sadashib was adapted as comics for Anandamela in the 1980s and it was edited by Nirendranath Chakravarty, illustrated by Bimal Das and adapted by Tarun Majumdar. A Radio play was also presented by Akashbani based on his Sadashib stories. Sadashib stories were also adapted in a popular FM program, ‘ Sunday Suspense’ for 98.3 Radio Mirchi (Kolkata ). He was awarded with some great awards like Rabindra Puraskar, Sharat Smriti Puraskar of University of Calcutta, Prize  Competition for  Children Literature – Government of India. This famous writer died on 22nd September, 1970 in Mumbai.
